Audiences to any TV series expect it to keep them excited on the very verge of their sofas or bed. Sitcom being the lighter version like IPhone XR to XS. Nah was just kidding. Sitcoms require their story line to keep their audience connected to them and never lose interest at any point of time. That’s why we see shows like ‘Scrubs’ and award winning ‘The Office’ coming to an end due to exiting of actors and loss of substance in story.
Undateable a NBC line up in sitcom is one of the few sitcoms which entertained their viewers even though staying for just 3 not so long seasons. Directed by Adam Sztykiel, the show hosts not actors not newbies but actual comedians which really proves its strong point of being comedic. Comedians Chris D’Elia, Brent Morin, Ron Funches team up with Bianca Kajlich, Rick Glassman, Bridgit Mendler and our favourite bartender David Flynn.
Chris D’Elia and Brent Morin plays as Danny and Justin. Danny’s sister’s role is played by Bianca as Leslie. Justin is childhood friends with Rick, Ron and David playing Burski, Shelly and Brett. Now Justin owns a bar named ‘Black Eyes’ with Brett as his bartender who’s first dialogues were actually describing himself as gay. Burski and teddy bear Shelly do hangout at his bar with Shelly owning an old age home.
At Danny’s place his roommate leaves him for his marriage and Leslie enters who is Danny’s elder sister recommending him about Justin as his new housemate and from here the real series kicks in.
Being two great comedians in real life Chris and Brent light up the show with their mutual disagreements and many more stuffs which so hard to describe because of their weirdness.
The first season is somewhat an opening best season which see Justin try to approach his bar’s waitress Nikki played by Briga Heelan and later by the early season 2 having his heart broken by her. Then comes the new waitress Candace played by Bridgit who then again falls in love with Justin in the third season. It’s a full rollercoaster ride for both Justin and Danny who also sees the same happen with him with one of Leslie best friend, Sabrina played by Eva Amurri.
Danny a Vin Diesel fan and is a person who loves himself so much that its like his identity and it is displayed throughout the series. Justin being the baby bird to his papa bird Danny has his friends Brett, Shelly, Burski and Danny’s sister Leslie with him living it all out with his bar. Danny and Justin fit it so good that it makes Brett feel manlier than their relationship, so hilarious. It’s not that the story is all centered around Danny and Justin we can see all glimpses of interesting things going out with the constant gay-insecurities of Brett, Shelly’s cuteness as sexy teddy bear and Burski trying hard to hook up with Leslie. Since it’s a review I wont dig deep in the stories and act a story-ruiner.
As of the story the special touch started to lose by the end of second season so NBC in the third season added a special touch by making Undateable Live on TV and calling famous personalities like Ed Sheeran, Backstreet Boys and other NBC series characters playing into it to. All the cast were so soaked in the show too that the announcement of not continuing the series shocked everyone in the cast, but it seemed clear by the end of third season it was coming to an end as the character themselves were giving hints.
The story seemed to fade too but their characters were so loved that during the Live shows they would tweet in and this would be discussed during interviews. For anyone who doesn’t want to soak into a series much but still wants it to be entertaining you will love Undateable.
