Movie Review – Geek Charming

Teenage life of a school student is hyped at its max level in any American movie, but now add a Disney production to it. Now you have suddenly landed into a wonderland where everyone is unnaturally rich, trendy and fashionable. Also, not to mention if the movie involves school life there ought to be a prom night involved in its storyline.

Geek Charming, released in 2011 on Disney Channel involves all the above-mentioned features. The movie was so well received by its audience, almost 4.9 million people tuned to it which was the 5th largest cable viewers of that week.

Starring Modern Family star Sarah Hyland and Matt Prokop, the movie as the name suggest runs around a film geek Josh played by Matt and the most popular girl Dylan Schoenfield played by Sarah. As Dylan tries to win the “Blossom Queen” award, Josh wants to make Dylan as his documentary topic for his film contest. As the movies starts with ‘Diva’ like attitude by Dylan, Josh dives deeper into her character trying to bring out the real Dylan in her. The story progresses as Dylan tries to help Josh in his love life, who has a crush on Amy who is Dylan’s childhood friend but talks no more due to her popularity quotient.

Now the romantic aspect of Dylan and Josh is not made that quite eminent but the signs of admiration towards each other is shown in a balanced amount. As the movie progresses a very cool side of the movie is displayed as the ‘popularity’ importance no longer seems to be important but being the way you are and enjoying time with friends is now projected to the audience.

While Dylan has now lost her popular position in the school after her boyfriend dumps her, and that’s all we tell you for no spoilers. Nah it’s a Disney movie, you know what happens in the end. Josh wins the Film contest and his film makes Dylan the most popular girl and wins her the ‘Blossom Queen’ award. They dance together on the prom night and end the movie kissing and walking down the road happily. The End.

Geek Charming is a really nice movie to find a simple teenage romance theme. Its rated 6.4 on IMDb, and suits it too as the story line lacked some strength in the ending parts of the movie – but hey it’s a Disney, we all go home to live happy ever after. Do give this light hearted movie a watch as we will catch you next time.

Cheers
