An Unstoppable Force – Manchester United

Football is observing a new scene in global stage, as empty stadiums are occupied by fan sounds being played through speakers to keep a new normal for the viewers and the players. The fight for the Premier League may however have been settled (thanks to the dominant Liverpool team), fight for Champions League spots are still on. One of the contenders – Manchester United have stood out tall in the post-lockdown time.

Return of injured players, have helped many teams like Tottenham Hotspurs, Manchester United to rejuvenate their squads. Top Manchester players – Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford – were all injured as the games were called off due to ongoing pandemic crisis. Top notch signing of Bruno Fernandes had just held the United ship as the games were called off. Post lockdown, only drawing against the other rejuvenated team Tottenham, United have managed to fairly and easily win their matches.

The Agents Of Solskjær

Bruno Fernandes has proved his worth to the reds scoring 7 goals in just 10 matches for the team, and his ability to provide that special pass to the forwards have clearly worked as United cuts passes through the defences of opponent teams

A lively Pogba has returned to a winning team. Paul Pogba has gone through so many criticisms over his United years seems to enjoy playing along with Fernandes, as the rumours goes that he may pen his signature for a new contract extension. He scored his first Premier League goal of this season against Aston Villa in a 3-0 win.

Anthony Martial has been a regular scoring forward for manager Solskjær, a youth under tremendous development – Mason Greenwood has taken to the score sheet 4 times after the resuming of the Premier League. The clean and swingy goals that Greenwood has provided for United has clearly struck chords with the pundits who can’t stop appreciating his talent.

At What Expense

Leader like Scott McTominay who was carrying United through the injury periods, playing a key role in the middle of the park seems to have lost his position to a new Paul Pogba. McTominay has only started against Spurs so far, only to be substituted on in the final minutes against Sheffield, Brighton and Villa.

Solskjær is stuck in a very good problem where he has a strong bench but what lies ahead is to keep the morale of these good players like McTominay and Brandon Williams high who have not had the game time they used to have before the re-start of the matches.

What Lies Ahead

Currently United only has to face – Southampton, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Leicester City – in their remaining 4 matches. Currently struggling for points, Leicester City being the only top 10 team to face, United are already breathing below them at 5th position with just a point away. Champions League spot is up for grabs as the other competing teams have had an unstable line of results.

United will be facing Chelsea in the FA cup semi-finals and are also still in the Europa League, so 2 trophies are also in contention for Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s United as the season is still a long way from completion.
